Our Story

I'm not sure whether to define our relationship as traditional or unique. It is traditional in the sense that two high school sweethearts are getting married. There is nothing too out of the ordinary about that. However, it is unique in the sense that we are not your average couple who brings each other home to meet the parents or any other dating rite of passage. So, where did "Seth and Elizabeth" get their start? The easy answer would be "in 9th grade," but I'm sure you want more of a story than that.

Here it is.

When I was in 1st grade, my family moved from Cairo, GA to the booming city of Cochran. Purely by chance, both mine and Seth's parents crossed paths. To make a long story short, they remembered each other from college and "rekindled" their friendship. So, from Day 1, the Peavy and Tyus families did everything together from eating suppers to going on vacation. At this point in time, Seth was "like a brother." When our families would go out to eat, the 4 parents would have a booth and the 4 kids would have theirs. Without fail, the seating arrangement was Seth and Emily sitting together on one side of the table and Lindsay and me on the other. It stayed that way for several years-- but not forever!

Enough about our boring past. Let's fast forward.

9th grade roles around for me. Although this sounds extremely trivial, I was determined that if I was going to date someone in high school, it would be a Junior or Senior. Because they could go to prom, of course. However, God had different intentions for me, and boy am I glad. At the beginning of the school year, this boy, who I considered to be my brother, started to sit next to me at FCA (big deal) and wait for me after class (even bigger deal). I thought it was sweet, but poor Seth was just a measly sophomore, which would mean no prom for me. Finally, I came to my senses and began to accept the new-found attention I was getting. Then on September 22, 2005, Seth asked me via text message (yes, text message) to "be his girlfriend."

I should go ahead and put the disclaimer out there that neither one of us are mushy-gushy people, so it is hard to write our love story with a straight face!

Anyway, so our story as a couple starts in early high school. Seth and I have many wonderful memories together. I will take the time to try and share some of them, although I would need the rest of your day to tell you them all! When we became "official," the Peavy-Tyus dinner seating arrangement now shifted to Lindsay and Emily sitting together, and well, you know, Seth and I on the other side. Our families still continued to do things together like normal. This is where we are really blessed as a couple. We got so many opportunities to see each other. We were also really close to each other's families-- which allowed us to skip the whole "meeting the parents" dating ritual. Seth and I spent our entire high school career as a couple, including 3 proms and 2 graduations.

The next chapter: college.

Seth and I were also blessed enough to go off to college at the same time. We both came to the University of Georgia in the fall of 2009. Personally, it was a blessing to have my best friend up here with me! Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our first year as UGA students. But that's no surprise since we are both avid Dawg fans. I guess once you get in college, people expect you to get married, because at this point in my life, people were constantly asking when we were going to get married, etc. etc. Considering I was (am) still dependent on my parents as a source of income, I knew a ring wasn't coming anytime soon! However, both Seth and I knew that getting married to each other was inevitable; it was just a waiting game.  And I guess the timing was just as good as any since I am graduating in May and he is soon after in December. It just seems that the natural next step in our relationship.

And boy, am I looking forward to it!
